Privacy Policy
This policy describes how ATS Checker collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use the Chrome extension and related backend services at this site.
1. Single purpose
ATS Checker exists only to help you see how well your resume matches a job posting you are viewing. You upload a resume PDF. The extension reads the listing on the current page. We return a score, keyword analysis, and suggested wording for you to copy and edit yourself. We do not apply to jobs for you, scrape the web at large, sell advertising, or provide unrelated features.
2. Information we collect
You provide
- Resume PDF and the text extracted from it (name, contact details, work history, education, and anything else in the file)
- Optional Pro checkout email, or an email you enter to link a purchase
- Optional export of analysis history that you download from Settings
We collect automatically
- A random device ID created on install (not your Chrome or Google account ID)
- Chrome profile email, if Chrome makes it available, only to match a Pro purchase to this install
- Job posting content from the active tab on supported sites: title, company name, listing URL, and job description text
- Usage counts for the free monthly analysis limit
- Pro status and billing identifiers after a Stripe purchase (email, Stripe customer/subscription IDs, payment status)
- Basic technical logs on our servers (time, error type) needed to run the API
We do not collect passwords, payment card numbers (Stripe handles payment), browsing history outside supported job listing pages, contacts, precise location, microphone, camera, or other Chrome data unrelated to this purpose.
3. How we use information
We use this information only to extract resume text and compare it to the open job posting; show scores, keywords, wording suggestions, cover snippet, and parser notes; enforce the free limit of 3 analyses per month and unlock Pro; restore Pro on this device after checkout; and fix bugs and keep the service running.
We do not use resume or job text for advertising. We do not sell personal information.
4. Where data is stored
On your computer (Chrome local storage): resume text, filename, and (if saved) the original PDF; settings, device ID, Pro flag, emails you linked; and optional analysis history. Clearing extension data or uninstalling removes local copies.
On our servers: device ID and monthly analysis count; subscriber email and Stripe billing status for Pro; and job description text, resume text, and resume PDF bytes sent for a request, processed to return a result.
We do not keep a resume library. Request bodies are processed to complete that analysis or parse and are not stored as a user file archive. Server logs may briefly include errors; we do not use them to rebuild your resume.
5. Who we share information with
We share data only with processors needed for this purpose:
| Recipient | Why |
|---|---|
| Vercel | Hosts the ATS Checker API and this policy page |
| OpenAI | Analyzes resume text vs. job text and, when needed, transcribes scanned PDFs |
| Supabase | Stores device ID, usage counts, and Pro subscriber records |
| Stripe | Processes the $19 Pro payment and billing portal |
Job boards (LinkedIn, Indeed, Glassdoor, Lever, Greenhouse, Workday, ZipRecruiter) are read in the tab so we can score the listing. We do not send your resume to those sites.
We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the service from abuse. If the product is transferred, this data would move with it under this policy or a successor notice. OpenAI, Stripe, Vercel, and Supabase process data under their own terms and privacy policies.
6. Permissions (why Chrome asks)
- storage / unlimitedStorage — save your resume, settings, and optional history on this device
- activeTab / scripting / tabs — read the job posting on the current supported listing and keep the side panel in sync when you switch jobs
- sidePanel — show scores and suggestions beside the listing
- identity / identity.email — read the Chrome profile email so a Pro purchase can be linked to this install
- alarms — refresh Pro status after checkout
- Host access to listed job sites — extract title, company, URL, and description from those listing pages only
- Host access to our API — parse the PDF, run analysis, and check Pro
The extension does not read other websites.
7. Retention
- Local resume and history: until you replace the resume, clear history, clear extension data, or uninstall
- Free-tier usage counts: by calendar month for limit enforcement
- Pro subscriber records: while Pro is active and as needed for billing, refunds, and fraud prevention
- Analysis request content: processed for that request; not retained as a stored resume database
8. Your choices
You can decline to upload a resume; replace or remove the saved resume in Settings; turn off local history or clear saved analyses; uninstall the extension to delete local data; use Stripe’s billing portal to manage payment details; or contact us to ask us to delete server-side subscriber/usage records tied to your device ID or email.
9. Children
ATS Checker is for people seeking work. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
10. International users
Servers may be in the United States. If you use the extension from elsewhere, you instruct us to process the data described here, including resume and job text, in the U.S. and wherever our processors operate.
11. Security
We use HTTPS, restrict API keys to the server, and store resumes primarily on your device. No method of transmission or storage is fully secure. Do not upload a resume you are unwilling to send to our API and OpenAI for that analysis.
12. Do not sell
We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context advertising. We do not use your resume to train public models. OpenAI’s processing of API traffic is governed by OpenAI’s API terms.
13. Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the effective date and post the new version at this same URL.
14. Contact
Questions, access, or deletion requests: Spencer Goldberg, ATS Checker. Use the support email on the Chrome Web Store listing, or the contact method provided with your Stripe receipt.
